The moment is seared into my brain so I can't forget. LOL! What little current there was it was headed into the main lake (Towards Corbeau). We parked the boat in about 10 feet of water near the first large flat rock at the mouth. It it still around 4 feet right near the shore. If you drew a streight line towards the main lake, out from where the farthest corner of the flat rock meets the water the depth will increase to about 20 or so feet. Then at the point will shallow up again to around 10 feet. Then after the point will dump down to 40+. Our guess is that they swim up and trap the bait fish against those points. Anyhoo, I dropped the bobber in and let it sail over the point. I would say that I had the worm a couple of feet off the bottom when it crossed the point. There I let it sit and didn't pay attention. But I knew exactly when it was gone. That little bobber didn't have a chance against that beast!

LOL...
I guess all is cool . It's amazing how every camp on the lake is looking around corners and whispering the words RHYBAK in fear that he isn't in their area for moment his bait touching the water will mean a sudden demise in their walleye population..Bwahahahahahahahahahaha |

Poor John! If he weren't so %#@& lucky, none of this would be happening to him! He would be better off to release those bad boys and keep his luck to himself. The tales around the table are always better without the evidence anyway.

I think you guys are being modest.
If I'm in a tournament, and I need a big fish in the boat to win, I'm not looking for a rookie partner who is oozing beginners luck!
In my opinion it has more to do with being in the right place, right time, with the right presentation.
Most of our largest fish have been caught trolling or casting crankbaits; although Walleye Willy's 11lbr was caught bottom bouncing.
Another observation is that the larger fish typically don't hang out with the smaller fish; likely b/c they can't compete...so we tend to go a little bit deeper...same area, just deeper. Willy's fish was sitting on the bottom in 25 FOW when we had been catching 3 lbrs at 10 fow.

Kevin, how much are you and RHYBAK paying Ian to hook you up? ( I know Ian is a diver) speaking for myself, Maybe in reality you two are about the only two who have it all figured out...I will admit I surely don't have it figured out. I guess we are just all jealous. Maybe there is a little more than luck to it?...
All I know...is next year I'm sending spies! When you hear the brush rustling or see some strange bubbles in the water, or get that tingling sensation on the back of your neck that someone is watching you ... maybe someone is! I will get to the bottom of that secret one way or another! I am sure one of those satellites above your head can be compromised and will show us what is going on!
Rest easy for now!

Brad, You have a trip ahead of you to watch Kevin fish. It took us 4.5 hours on the bush road last year. Can we say Ogascanan!
Cheers

LOL.... Don't kid yourself.
The ones that really have this lake figured out are Shrink and all of his fellow fishermen.
They catch lots of fish, lots of big fish and just keep it to themselves.(and theres nothing wrong with that)
I saw them in action this spring and this past fall.
You want to talk about a bunch of guys that know what they are doing.
I couldn't compete with them if I tried. |

Brad,
You are more than welcome to follow me around anytime; no suba gear necessary (perhaps a 6 pack of Bleue?). But your suggestion about me having them figured out makes me think that someone in your house left the diaper pail open.
The only time I will fish walleye is the week I spend on Ogascanan; outside of that, it's bass, sunfish, catfish and if I'm lucky a striper or two.
If you are looking to follow someone around, you might consider starting with Rhybak (maybe he'll be less modest in the boat )...after that, there's at least a dozen better walleye fishermen on this board than me, that I would start with first.
On Lake O, we have found a handful of areas that should produce in various situations. When they don't, I like locating new areas based on maps and conditions. This drives Cap'n Rob nuts at times, b/c he is so damn impatient, but that is part of the fun...at least for me
Anyone who has been on a trip with me knows that I go to fish. I put my time in on the water, which is not that hard when it looks like this.
Luck? Sure it plays a part. I remind myself that my next cast could bring in a 5 pound Snubnose Trout of a lifetime.
Cheers, Kevin |

Sure wish we had more time to look at views of the lake in person like that this year Kevin. To me, views like that and peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, breathing crisp clean Canadian air with the hint of pine scent and the haunting cry of a loon on a smooth as glass lake far outweigh any fish big or small. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! a time to recharge the old mind, and get back to the way things otta be! MORE SIMPLE
Here is to a mild and fast winter season, and time for all to get back up on Kip!

John, would you mind sharing what problems you experienced on your way into Ogascanan that resulted in a 4.5 hour trip. If memory serves, it's usually a little more than 2 hours into Ogascanan.

Jay, it was the road condition, horrible is an understatement. I always take my boat so that slows me down a little. Most years with the boat it takes 2.5 to 3 hours. With no logging the roads aren't touched. It's too bad because as much as we like the big O we are thinking of going else where next year. The outfitters are trying to get the roads fixed but are receiving no help from the goverment. Second trip last year we went to Senneterre outfitters, there was 50 miles of bush road and even pulling the boat I drove 50 miles an hour. that is mining country and since they are still working the road conditions are great.
